Plants that run multiple products need a cleaning and changeover plan before the line is built. Freeze dryers, pre-freezing equipment and packaging machines all have surfaces and zones that can carry residue or allergens between campaigns.
Questions to answer early
- Which products are allergen-sensitive or require segregated handling?
- Are product-contact surfaces accessible for manual or automated cleaning?
- How is the condenser defrosted and drained between runs?
- How are changeover and cleaning verified and recorded?
Design for the cleaning method
Drainage, surface finish, seals and access all affect how reliably a line can be cleaned. The cleaning method — manual, clean-in-place or a combination — is chosen with the product portfolio in mind and finalized during project scoping.
Regulated uses. For sterile or high-hygiene applications, cleaning and sterilization are validated parts of the process and equipment qualification, not an optional feature.
